Tokaido is a very light game. I would almost say that it is best with two players, as it adds the dummy third player that is used for blocking purposes.That said, Tokaido, no matter how you play it, is not the most strategic game you'll ever play. It is very laid back and non-confrontational. As far as two-player games go, I would recommend Jaipur, Morels, and a bunch of others over this one.
That said, I love Tokaido for what it is. It has lots of Japanese culture, and the theme, color, and artwork are great. I am glad it is in my collection, but know it isn't for everyone. Just make sure it is what you are looking for before spending lots of money on it.
