Thanks for the session report and the analysis. This is neat to see! However, this doesn't completely alleviate my concerns.
The big one is that the player went first. Our opinion based on games played so far was that the game weighed toward the player who went first, and that the player who went first tended to have more viable choices, while the player going last had the fewest choices. I see you did use the variable turn order values, so that might mitigate that a little.
Also, because the AIs played by a strict script, you could take advantage of that script. The AI player might, for example, donate at a temple when they really should be saving the gold for the inn.
The opinion so far has also been that there are more choices with fewer players; I personally am looking at playing Tokaido as mostly a 4 player game, so I wonder how it compares there.
Your score was pretty close to one of the AIs - only 7 points apart. Would a single choice on the part of the AI have swung it the other way?
Just things to ponder.
I wonder when Tokaido will actually make it out in the US anyway!
