Tokaido should be the perfect game for me. I love the theme traveling along the East Sea Road. It’s a time track so one of my favourite mechanisms. The art is beautiful. It’s probably a contender for the most beautiful game. It’s by a favourite designer Antoine Bauza the designer of the magnificent Draftosaurus no less. I have the upgrade pack, so I have the coins and miniatures.
However, I just don’t get it. No matter what I do I can’t win this game. I know I must use my character’s special abilities. Money is tight. You must make sure you can buy a meal at each inn otherwise you miss out on a huge six points. I know it pays to specialise but even so I win at the most one of the achievements each game. I usually also complete a panorama.

The thing I love about time tracks is the jeopardy of whether it’s worth jumping ahead. But in Tokaido the spaces just not lucrative enough. Ok I might jump ahead if I can be first to complete a panorama or I need money but that’s it.
Some of the spots have double spaces so you need to be careful going at the bottom of these because you go down in the turn order. But I still don’t get it. What am I missing? So I bought the app to try and hone my skills. So far I’ve come last or second to last six times.
Help me work out. Where am I going wrong?
