Souvenirs within a set must all be of a different type. This means that you may have to start a second set before your first set is complete. So, for example, say you acquire A, B, and B. then A and B go in the first set, but the second B has to go in a second set. So...
Set 1: A+B = 4 (1+3)
Set 2: B = 1.
If you then acquire C, you can add that to set 1 and get 5 for it. A second C would then have to go in Set 2, for 3. You would then have
Set 1: A+B+C (1+3+5)
Set 2: B+C (1+3)
In your example, where you get A, B, C, C, they would go:
Set 1: A+B+C (1+3+5)
Set 2: C (1)
Hope that helps.
