Pretty sure I'm going to pledge for the Samurai level, as I love the beautiful game that is Tokaido. However, I really wonder why we would need to have four minis for every single character. One series of painted minis would suffice for me, but maybe there are people who are interested in that, I don't know. Personally, I think 66 minis (where 17 would be enough to play all the characters) drives up the price way more than an integrated board or bigger cards, whereas the latter would affect the gameplay much more. Oh well...
Think of it this way, you get one mini that matches every style of artwork for every character. You'll then be able to play with everything if you'd like, and two people could possibly have the same abilities (two different versions of the same character).
Now, because Funforge is being nice and also because it'll save them time and energy with this many backers, instead of giving you the choice of do you want the painted or unpainted version of the minis, you just get both! Once the molds are created, it's a small amount of plastic needed to actually create multiples of each. So, it's not a huge cost on their part. Pick which one you like, do whatever you want with the others. Play with the unpainted, display the painted. Play with the painted, practice painting your own minis on the unpainted. I'll probably keep the painted and sell the unpainted along with my original copy of Tokaido.
