I just received my copy of Tokaido and Crossroads today, and managed to get a 2-player game in.
I loved it, and I am now even more psyched for the Collector's Edition (I would sell my current copy off in the event I stick with the CE, obviously).
I think that this game would really benefit from a Collector's Edition, because it's such an aesthetic game to begin with, much like Takenoko - assuming it maintains the high level of production quality.
I think there are a few simple additions/modifications that can be made to make the CE truly a work of art:
1. Unify the board. Right now, that little side board for Crossroads stands out like a sore thumb when placing everything on the table. I get you'd want to keep the boards separate for those who wish to play Tokaido without the expansion, but I think the aesthetic pros far outweigh the con of having an "unused" section of the board.
2. Biggify the cards (on the KS page it looks like the cards are bigger, but I did not see this confirmed anywhere) - this is for two reasons. The first, the art on this game is gorgeous - big cards will show it off better. The second is a reason of comfort, mini cards are a pain to deal with.
